New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert continues her smoking-hot series about the O'Malleys-wealthy, powerful, and full of scandalous family secrets.

Greed. Ambition. Violence. Those are the "values" Olivia Rashidi learned from her Russian mob family-and the values she must leave behind for the sake of her daughter. When she meets Cillian O'Malley, she recognizes the red flag of his family name . . . yet she still can't stop herself from seeing the smoldering, tortured man. To save her family, Olivia sets out to discover Cillian's own secrets, but the real revelation is how fast-and how hard-she's falling for him.

Plagued by a violent past, Cillian is more vulnerable than anyone realizes. Anyone except Olivia, whose beauty, compassion, and pride have him at "hello," even if she's more inclined to say good-bye to an O'Malley. While his proposal of sex with no strings seems simple, what he feels for her isn't, especially after he learns that she belongs to a rival crime family. Cillian knows that there is no escape from the life, but Olivia may be worth trying-and dying-for . . .

Katee Robert is easily my favorite author. I started reading her books last year and am slowly making my way through her backlist, including The O’Malleys series. I don’t ever expect to love everything she write, but her style really works for me. She strikes the right balance, for me, between the emotion and plot and all of the filth. This book is no exception and I loved every moment of it making Cillian O’Malley my new favorite hero and book boyfriend.

TROPES

Single parent, enemies to lovers.

CONTENT WARNINGS

Sexual content, violence (gun, specifically), kidnapping, blood, death (including murder), assault.

WHAT WORKED FOR ME

Cillian as a hero. He’s my favorite thus far in the series and we’ve honestly seen a lot of character growth from him since the start of the series. In this book specifically, we get to understand what his motivations are and who he really is. He is a bit of a protective alphahole at times with a filthy mouth. I also loved watching him fall for Olivia and do anything to protect her and her daughter.

I also love getting glimpses of the family and the teasing Katee does for the next in the series (which I’m equally as excited about). Seeing all of them throughout the book is honestly one of the things Katee does well in the series she writes.

The suspense! This is a mafia series, so there’s definitely suspense. There are some overarching story lines that I don’t want to get into, since this is the third in the series.

For the most part, I liked Olivia. I understood why she was apprehensive of anything with Cillian given her past. Overall, she felt more wishy washy than other characters we’ve encountered. Ultimately, she was fine, but not as bad ass as we’ve seen thus far in the book.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK FOR ME

Overall, this didn’t hit as well as a cohesive piece like the first two entries in the series did. It felt like something was missing to make it more of a bang, though I can’t quite put my finger on what is missing.

I hate how everyone but Teague treats Cillian. While he’s continued to let them believe he’s still a party boy, they completely underestimate him and accept that he’s always going to let them down.

SPICE RATING

4 chili peppers. Katee is almost always in this range for spice. She has a lot of spicy scenes. However, in this book, it is pretty well balanced with plot.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This is definitely not my favorite entry in the series, but Cillian is easily my favorite hero. He’s a brooding grump at times, but (again) fiercely protective of the people he loves. Add in his dirty talking and I found my new book boyfriend. All of those things in mind, this was an easy 5 stars.
