The first book I read for the official Sean/Alyssa book club where we each pick a book to read off Kindle Unlimited. Then we friend with food and chat about what we read. And unfortunately, I did not pick a great one for the first book. Basically, I had expectations of this book and they let me down.

TROPES

Billionaire, nanny, single guardian, surprise pregnancy, virgin heroine, age gap.

CONTENT WARNING(S)

Pregnancy, loss of a loved one (sibling), emotional abuse, virgin heroine, sexual content.

WHAT WORKED FOR ME

I love the billionaire trope so between that and the nanny element, I really enjoyed that part. The “I can buy anything I want” for whatever reason is one of my favorite ones to read about. Combine that with the forbidden aspect since Abby is his nanny and this had a lot of things that really work for me 99% of the time. I honestly don’t even mind and can look past when one of the main characters is a virgin.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK FOR ME

On the other hand, one of my absolute least favorite tropes is surprise pregnancy (also secret baby). There’s one scene within the book that leads us to go “yup, she’s going to end up pregnant”. Unfortunately, I nailed that plot point and it turned my entire enjoyment factor down to zero. On top of that, I (without reading the synopsis) made assumptions on what “daddy” within the title meant. Daddy kink is another favorite trope to read about and was really hoping for some fun forbidden daddy kink. I made a mistake in my assumptions and that also really played a part in why I didn’t care too much for this one.

SPICE RATING

I’m putting the spice at about 2-3 chili peppers. It was an open door romance and I really enjoyed the sex scenes, but the overall enjoyment of this book doesn’t not match the chili pepper rating.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I wish I would’ve picked a better book to kick off book club. The names of much of the authors works goes right along with the tropes I like…minus the pregnancy part. Therefore, I probably will not pick up more from this author in the future. If surprise pregnancy with a slightly forbidden, age gap type of trope is for you, I do think you’d enjoy this. It unfortunately wasn’t for me.
