It’s 2023 and, while I feel like my 2022 reading did what I wanted to do, I know there are things that I want to try and accomplish with my reading in 2023. So that’s what we’re here to do today. Let’s talk about my 2023 reading goals!
Now – everyone has different types of reading goals. Personally, I like to go the SMART goal route (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely).
My 2023 Reading Goals:
- Read 150 books – this is a bit of a stretch goal for me. I’ve come close to around 130-140 books in the last couple years. I would love nothing more than to read about 150. But, truthfully, I’ll be happy with any number I read.
- Try at least 50 new to me authors – in 2022, I read about 65 new to me authors, and I want to keep trying new authors in 2023. I’m going to a few book signings this year that definitely helps make this a possibility.
- Read diversely (at least 30% authors of color and 30% queer) – this one takes a bit more thought for me to ensure that I’m actually reading more than straight relationships by white authors. Still completely achievable but means being more purposeful in the types of stories I’m picking up.
- Read widely (sub-genres of romance mostly) – this is the only goal I have that is not written in a SMART style. I’ve recently started reading historical romance and always have a good time with fantasy and monster romances that I want to make a point to read more. I’d also like to explore suspense as a sub-genre since I grew up as a heavy mystery/thriller reader.
Typically, throughout the year I’ll add various reading challenges to my list too as a way to continue to inspire my reading. Other times, it’s purely on vibes and the mood I’m in at that moment.
